BOTOX® Cosmetic/Facial Fillers

There are many methods to handle facial wrinkles, and folds, often with a combination of Botox® Cosmetic and facial fillers. Botox® Cosmetic is particularly valuable especially in for the forehead and around the eyes. Dr. Miller and the staff of Aesthetic & Vein Center MD will meet with you to determine the most effective method to achieve your desired goal.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein derived from the bacterium, Clostridium Botulinum. Using a tiny micro-very fine needle, a very small amount of BOTOX® is injected, very precisely , into several locations of the face, typically the vertical lines between your eyebrows, forehead lines, and lines at the corners of your eyes (crow’s feet). BOTOX® injections have been used safely and effectively for over ten years to treat many ophthalmologic and neurological disorders. In 2004, over 2 million people were injected with BOTOX®. We purchase our BOTOX® Cosmetic directly from Allergan, the only FDA approved source in the U.S.

How long does the procedure take?
Following the consultation, the actual procedure takes less than 15 minutes. Since there is no downtime – you can do it at lunchtime – and no one would know you had it done!

How does BOTOX® Cosmetic work?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected into a targeted facial expression muscle, blocking impulses from the nerve to the muscle, thereby relaxing the muscle so it does not contract. This causes the overlying skin to become smoother, with fewer lines and wrinkles. It may also be used to create a gentle but definite elevation of the eyebrows, giving you a brighter look. The untreated facial muscles continue to contract in a normal fashion, allowing the normal facial expression and feeling to be unaffected.

How quickly will I see results?
BOTOX® Cosmetic usually starts relaxing the treated area within several days, but the full effect may not be realized for two weeks.

How long will BOTOX® last?
The effects last between 3-4 months on average but everyone is different. We advise encourage our patients to have the first 3 treatments precisely at 12 weeks and the next two treatments at 16 weeks. Typically patients who follow this treatment schedule begin to need less Botox and they increase the time between treatments.

Juvéderm™

What is Juvéderm ™?
Juvéderm™ is a smooth consistency gel made of hyaluronic acid—a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration. Our healthcare professional eases Juvéderm™ injectable gel under the skin to provide a smooth, natural look and feel—so everyone will notice (but no one will know)!

Juvéderm™ injectable gel is indicated for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds (the creases running from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth). It may also be used for lip volume enhancement and reshaping.

How long does Juvéderm ™ last?
The effects last approximately 6 months, but everyone is different.

Restylane®

What is Restylane®?
Restylane® is a smooth gel which is non-animal based. Restylane® is considered a natural cosmetic dermal filler. Restylane® works by restoring volume that results in a fullness to the skin. Restylane® is made of hyaluronic acid, a substance that exists in your body. It has been used safely and effectively in the United States since 1996. It is used to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the nasolabial folds. It also works well for volume enhancement and reshaping of the lips.

How long does Restylane® last?
Restylane® products are proven to deliver long-lasting results. Restylane® lasts about six months.

Perlane®

What is Perlane®?
Perlane® is similar to Restylane® in that it is a hyaluronic acid filler. The molecule is larger than the Restylane molecule and more suitable for injection into deeper facial wrinkles and facial depressions. It is commonly used for wrinkle correction, diminishing smile lines and marionette lines. It can also be used to reduce the severity of nasolabial folds and for re-contouring the face, such as restoring the look of your cheek bones.

How long does Perlane® last?
The results of a Perlane® filler treatment tend to last from six months to one year.

Radiesse®

What is Radiesse®?
Radiesse® is an innovative product that has been used for many years in prosthetic implants for dental, facial and orthopedic surgery. The product consists of calcium hydroxylapatite, which is a normal constituent of the bone and, therefore, should not cause inflammatory or immune reactions.

Radiesse® is used for the correction of moderate to severe wrinkles and folds, such as the nasolabial folds and the marionette lines. It is also an excellent product for re-contouring the face, such as restoring the look of your cheek bones. However it should not be used for lip volume enhancement and reshaping.

How long does Radiesse® last?
Depending on the area treated, most corrections may last for up to 1 year, and sometimes longer. Some touch-up treatments may be necessary.
